Copy of letter from James Brown, surveyor general, to Deputy G. McCready. – 9 March 1860. – 2 pp. of textual records. Brown states that Robert Bowes has made application on behalf of parties in Saint John County for the survey of a tract of land suitable for settlement in Salisbury Parish. Brown directs McCready to make a survey of 10,000 acres and to lay it out in 100-acre lots. Copy of letter from James Brown, surveyor general, to Deputy S. W. Starkey. – 22 March 1860. – 1 p. of textual records. Brown states that His Lordship Dr. Sweeny has applied to government on behalf of an association at Saint John, of which the Bishop is president, for a survey of 20,000 acres of crown land near Longs Creek (York County) for settlement under the Labour Act. Anxious to accommodate the Bishop, Brown directs Starkey to make the survey “in concert with such persons as His Lordship may wish to accompany you” and to reject any land unsuitable for cultivation. Copy of letter from James Brown, surveyor general, to Mr. Deputy Snell. – 7 April 1860. – 1 p. of textual records. Brown directs Snell to make a survey of a tract of land, not exceeding 10,000 acres, west of Gaspero River and north of Salmon Creek. He explains that Bishop Sweeny has applied for this land on behalf of an association in Saint John with the intention of settling it. He asks Snell to contact His Lordship in order that, if he wishes, Bishop Sweeny may direct someone to accompany Snell to assist with land selection.
